On-premises data gateway December release

We are happy to announce that we have just released the December update for the on-premises data gateway (version 3000.154.3). This update brings the on-premises data gateway up to date with the December release of Power BI Desktop. Download:  On-premises data gateway December release This version of the gateway will ensure that the reports that you publish to the Power BI Service and refresh via the gateway will go through the same query execution logic/run-time as in the December version of Power BI Desktop.

On-premises data gateway July 2022 update is now available

We are happy to announce that we have just released the July 2022 update for the On-premises data gateway (version  3000.134.9 ). This update doesn’t include changes to the data gateway application. New data source and gateway management experience

Recently replaced the “manage gateway” experience with a new interface, making it easier to manage your gateways and data sources. With this new experience, you also get the ability to manage and create the Vnet gateway and use the recently released additional security roles. How to create new data sources Navigate to powerbi.com Navigate to the  Manage gateways  page To create a new data source, click on the  New  button in the top ribbon Select the gateway you want to create a data source for and give the data source a name Select the  Data source type . In this example we are using SQL Add the  Server  and  Database  and fill out the credentials Click on  Create  to create the data source. Additional gateway security roles for Power BI

We are excited to announce additional gateway security roles for Power BI! These additional security roles allow for more granularity in assigning roles for the gateway. The new change is that non-admins of the gateway can be allowed to create connections (data sources) on the gateway. This way, your gateway admins are not the bottleneck anymore for creating connections (data sources). Security roles There are three security roles for the on-premises data gateway. When you install an on-premises data gateway, you automatically become the admin of the gateway. There can be multiple admins on the gateway. The three security roles for the on-premises data gateway are: Admin : An admin can manage and update the on-premises data gateway. An admin is allowed to create connections (data sources) on the gateway. The on-premises data gateway acts as a bridge to provide quick and secure data transfer between on-premises data (data that isn't in the cloud) and several Microsoft cloud services.
